On this Feeling Fabulous Friday, I am reminded of God's Presence. Knowing that He is with me has been the theme of my week. On my journey to wholeness, as described in a previous post (here), I have drawn comfort and purpose from focusing on His presence.
I have learned that it is easy to become distracted by the noise of life and miss His presence with us. We must quiet our minds and still our bodies in order to rest in His presence and draw peace and strength from Him. Some days I do this very well, but more often than not, I let myself follow the distractions of this life instead. I have found myself praying these prayers often:
Lord, be with me. Come to me. Show me your presence! As I study His Word, the Lord has shown me the promises of His presence with us always.
Exodus 33:12-18
12 One day Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ 13 If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.”14 The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”15 Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. 16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”17 The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”18 Moses responded, “Then show me your glorious presence.”
Psalm 139: 5-12
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!
I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.
Matthew 28:20
20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
I love the worship song, "You'll Come." It has become a staple on Sunday nights for us. The song speaks of the Lord's willingness to respond to us when we seek Him, ask for His presence to be made known to us, and wait on Him. It reminds me of this passage in Hosea.
Hosea 6:1-3
“Come, let us return to the Lord.He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us.He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds. In just a short time he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence. Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him.He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.”
It is a fabulous feeling to know that no matter what our circumstances and no matter where we are in life, God is with us and His presence goes before us. He will respond to us in His time as we wait upon Him and seek His face. As we clear through the clutter of this life, we will be able to hear His still small voice calling to us and responding to us! Praise the Lord! His presence with me is the only thing holding me together.
