One thing I know that will help me and you on this journey is learning to let go. For some reason, we hold on tight to the things that are holding us back. Those things could be fear, worry, jealousy, pride, anger, vanity, bitterness, perfectionism, materialism, unhealthy relationships, unhealthy habits, etc. The list could go on and on!! There are so many things that get in our way both physically and spiritually to keep us from living a happy, whole, and joy filled life.
When I think about the need to let go of some things, it reminds me of this clip from a funny episode of the TV show, Reba.
Letitgo…We now use this “word” constantly around our house!!
Say it with me...Letitgo!!
- Read and internalize the verse below, then write out what it means to you.
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10 AMP
- Sit down and make a list of all the things that you feel are holding you back from living the abundant life that Christ promised us.
- Evaluate each item on your list. Is it an attitude or action that comes from within you? Is it a reaction to attitudes or actions of someone else? Is it a feeling that has developed out of deep-seated pain and unresolved issues? How long has this been holding you back from enjoying everyday life and moving forward towards God's plans for you? Write out all of your observations.
- Finally, write out a prayer asking the Lord to help you let go of those things. Ask him to show you what changes you need to make to tear down the barrier between you and abundant living.
Probably the biggest thing that weighs me down and keeps me from feeling fabulous and living joyfully...
is WORRY !!
Worry eats away at me!! I spend so much time worrying, that at the end of the day, I don't know where the minutes and hours went! I'm sure that you have been there too, agonizing over things that are many times out of your control.
Jesus spoke out against worry so many times. Here are some of the things He had to say on the topic:
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your ]life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:25-34 NASB
3 And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. 8 And others fell on the good soil and *yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. 9 He who has ears, let him hear.”
And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Matthew 13:3-9, 22 NASB
My plan is to carry around a small notebook with a pen and call it my "worry book." Anytime during the day when a worry pops into my head, I will get out the book and write it down. When I close the cover of the notebook, my goal will be to forget about that particular worry and just leave it in the book. If I am having trouble forgetting it, I will pick up the notebook, turn to the first page, and read the bible verses I have written there (the two verses above). I will take a few deep breathes. let those verses be absorbed into my heart, mind and soul, and move on with my day. That is my challenge, and I hope I can put it into practice.
